Organic Pest Control

Spraying isn’t a 4-letter word, but if you apply fish emulsion, clay, kelp extract, compost tea, et cetera, you might be a little too familiar with some of those 4-letter words, especially when it comes to spraying the stuff!

Organic growing often means putting some really tough to handle materials in your spray tank. Sometimes that means spraying so much water that you lose the effectiveness of the material. Clogged nozzles mean irregular application. So what can you do?

Innovative materials require innovative hardware- your old sprayer was never built to handle the types of materials you regularly use in organic agriculture.

Proptec™ technology eliminates many frequent problems with organic materials. Now you can:

  • Spray high viscosity, chunky and stringy materials with a minimum of filtration.
  • Get the uniform, fine-droplet spray you need to penetrate the canopy and get great coverage that “softer” materials and nutritionals require.
  • Resist clogged nozzles- Nearly clog-proof
  • Maintain your calibration and spray quality- abrasion resistant
  • Keep your machine in good service- easy to clean

There is often a de-emphasis on spraying in organic agriculture, but if you have to spray, the performance of your sprayer is especially critical! Many organic materials require direct contact with the pest in order to be effective, and that means deep canopy coverage, like the coverage you get from a Proptec. Further, if your spray is not effective, getting back in control can be even more difficult in an organic program. We know that doing it right the first time, matters. We can help.

Does your spray look thick like this? The spray at right is a 6% solution of clay- that's over 2 pounds of clay in 5 gallons of water! Proptec atomizers easily handle thick and chunky.

In the research project underway at right, Organic blight control in Carrots was actually much more effective than the conventional blight control, when the organic materials were applied by Proptec in only 5 GPA of water. Read about it below.

Can’t afford to spray those high cost 0 PHI materials? Are your spray materials prohibitively expensive? Often, the superior coverage of Proptec (example shown at right in christmas trees) allows users to aggressively reduce the amount of active material per acre without sacrificing control, making high-priced protectants very cost-effective. Call us to discuss this more.
