Pesticide application and metering with multi-channel peristaltic pumps

AccuStaltic pump configured to meter spray and agitate tank

Accu-Staltic™ pumps mean accurate pesticide application! Accustaltic pumps are indicated for variable-rate application in low-pressure, flow-based metering applications. Typical uses include air-shear nozzles, Rotary atomizers, soil fumigation, and fertilizers. For these applications, you’ll find no finer metering pump on the market today.

Accu-staltic™ pumps offer a much wider metering range than turbines, handle thick and chunky flows with ease, and assure that each flow to each nozzle or outlet is absolutely identical. they will also suck the tank dry without loss of prime.

Use Accu-staltic™ pumps in any of the following situations:

  • precision pesticide application
  • pesticide application techniques using airshear nozzles, air atomizing nozzles, or rotary atomizers
  • any other application below 40 PSI
  • variable rate application
  • to replace turbine flowmeters

The future of pesticide metering?

Accu-Staltic™ Pumps were originally designed nearly 20 years ago to increase the range and capacity of computer spray controllers. At the time, It was future meets past- 20th century electronics controlling 19th century fluid metering, mainly consisting of adjustable pressure and variable orifices.  While butterfly and ball valves work fine, pressure based metering gives a pretty limited range of adjustment. To get the widest range of variable rate performance, the applicator needed a positive displacement pump, so that the speed of the pump is directly proportional the application rate. Ideally, the pump should be so accurate, that it becomes the flowmeter.

The right tool for the job

Peristaltic pumps were perfect for the task in concept, but there was a lack of field-ready designs that would stand up to the rugged service and long-life needs of the modern farmer. So, in a lab at Michigan State University Agricultural Engineering Department, Accu-Staltic™ pumps were conceived and developed.

The Design standard was strict:

  • They were given multiple pumping tubes (channels) on one motor, so that each channel was a direct path to the nozzle, and all the channels operated in synchronous. This created perfect flow division.
  • They were designed massive so that flex and fatigue would not affect accuracy.
  • They were designed with permanently lubricated, double-sealed bearings to run in any condition- even submerged (IP66 Rated!)
  • And lastly, they were designed for ease of service- any part must be serviced with the removal of 4 bolts or less. The entire pump should be rebuilt in one hour or less.

Today, those original design principles apply to every pump we build. We are confident that the Accu-Staltic pump is the finest, most accurate metering pump offered in agriculture today, and we back that with a 2 year, 5000 hour warranty to prove it.

A pump that pays for itself:

While quality is nice, a good piece of hardware should pay for itself. Take a look at the following list of advantages. Would any of them improve YOUR operation?

  • Variable flow rate: from 0-3 gallons per channel, up to 36 GPM total flow. Widest range available.
  • Can run dry with no adverse effect- will suck a tank absolutely dry! Think of the saved chemicals that you don’t have to dump out.
  • Absolutely no backflow. Your booms will not "leak down" creating a lag time on startup.
  • Each channel is an independent pump- it will pump exactly the same volume as all the others. You no longer need metering orifices, needle valves, or nozzles in-line to meter chemical!
  • Plus or minus 5% accuracy over the life of the tubing, from 50 to 350 pump RPM’s.
  • Tubes can be inspected and repaired before they wear out- keeps you in the field working.
  • Pump can be rebuilt entirely for about 1/3 the cost of new.
  • Tubing available to resist nearly any fluid. Quit worrying that what you spray is going to wreck your chem system! Wetted parts are pump tubing, brass fittings, and stainless steel manifolds (all stainless available).
  • Pump capable of 40 PSI or more with the right tubing.
