Proptec Atomizer Builder- Baskets

BasketsIn most atomizer configurations, the second-stage atomizer — or basket — is where the magic really happens. Large droplets from the hub hit the basket and are shattered into finer droplets. Imagine hitting a water baloon with a tennis racket. This shattering works even with viscous fluids or abrasive slurries. All baskets will fit interchangeably with all hubs, giving you a wide range of droplet spectra options.

There are 5 baskets to choose from. Not sure which one is the right one? purchase a few and experiment- our Buy & Try Satisfaction Guarantee make it easy and nearly risk- free.

There are several considerations for Choosing baskets:

  1. Abrasive resistance: Coarse (12 mesh) will be much higher abrasion resistance than fine (30 mesh) baskets, simply because the wires are thicker.
  2. Clog resistance: if you have suspended particulate in your sprayed fluid, the basket can act as a filter and catch it. This can cause clogging and reduction in performance. Choose the coarsest possible mesh that will serve your needs, and choose appropriate line filtration if necessary. For severely chunky fluids, a single stage atomizer with no basket, spun fast, may be the best solution.
  3. Chemical Resistance: Most applications will be suited by any of our 5 atomizer baskets with no trouble. If you are concerneed about chemical compatibility or have a known corrosion problem with your sprayed fluid, these details may help: Fine mesh baskets use 304 SS mesh with proprietary high corrosion resistant copper/nickel/antimony solder, attached to 304 SS plates. Coarse mesh use Monel 400 (copper nickel alloy) mesh, soldered to 304 SS Plates. Severe duty baskets use 304 SS mesh welded to 304 SS plates, with no solder.
  4. Droplet size: finer mesh gives finer droplets. larger baskets give smaller droplets at a given speed. There are some data sets with water available on this site, but if your droplet size is critical, in-situ testing with your fluid is highly recommended.
  5. Spray volume: coarse mesh baskets have high capacities, fine mesh baskets have lower capacities. An atomizer's capacity is a function of the basket, hub, injector tube, and the fluid to be sprayed. The guidelines below give some help. Contact us for review of your application and final approval.
  6. Spray radius: 6" baskets entrain a small amount of air as they spin, giving a relatively small spray radius. 12" baskets entrain a LARGE quantity of air, and so tend to carry the droplets in a much larger radius.

Please feel free to contact us for more information on choosing the right basket for your application.
